Seasonal Reminders

Storm Drain Care

Help prevent street flooding by keeping leaves, grass clippings, and debris away from storm drains near your home.

Garden & Yard Care

Keep lawns and gardens maintained, trim overgrown vegetation near sidewalks, and help keep shared neighborhood spaces looking their best.

Mosquito Prevention

Help reduce mosquitoes by emptying standing water from flowerpots, buckets, gutters, toys, and other containers around your home.

Outdoor Safety

Stay safe outdoors by staying hydrated, taking breaks from the heat, and seeking shelter during thunderstorms.

Neighborhood Essentials

Mondays: Yard trim and compost pickup (bagged leaves, bundled branches, approved food waste bins required)
Thursdays: Trash, recycling, and up to two scheduled bulky items (must be in proper bins—no loose trash)

Zone 3: sweeping occurs on select Wednesdays during the spring.

Please park on the even-numbered side of the street on sweeping days to allow for effective street sweeping.

Contact: streetsweeping@co.pg.md.us

Select streets near Ellin Road (Metro access) require county parking permits for residents and guests. ALL issues with parking and permitting must be referred to the county directly.
Parking is limited—please be considerate, do not reserve spaces using cones or objects, and use nearby overflow areas when needed.

To assist crews, residents are asked to:

  • Move and keep vehicles off snow emergency routes

  • Park in driveways or other off-road locations wherever possible

  • Park only on the even-numbered sides of roads/streets

Don't miss out on critical conversations: Attend our monthly association meetings

We host monthly meetings of the West Lanham Hills Citizens' Association (WLHCA) on the first Thursday of every month in the West Lanham Hills Parks Building (7700 Decatur Street) at 7pm. Our annual meeting is held in May, when we determine the annual budget and make other critical decisions that impact the upcoming year.

Any neighbor can attend these meetings, where you will learn about activities impacting our neighborhood, such as local developments and construction, opportunities and events, and more. We frequently welcome guest speakers from the county to include our County Council Representative, State Senator, and State Representative, as well as essential county staff from Parks and Planning, Department of Permitting Inspection and Enforcement, and more.

In order to vote in our meetings, you are required to be a member of the Association, which only requires an annual fee of $2 (free for seniors (55+) and veterans).

We hope to see you there!
